After two games on the road, West Haven is heading back home. After each having a week off, the West Haven Blue Devils and The North Haven Nighthawks will dust off their jerseys to square off against one another at 6:00 p.m. on October 20th. Both teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Last Friday, everything went West Haven's way against Hamden as West Haven made off with a 47-21 victory. Given West Haven's advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut football rankings (they are ranked second, while Hamden is ranked 30th), the result wasn't exactly an upset.
West Haven's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Camren Kemp, who rushed for 181 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.5 yards per carry, and Nick Conlan, who rushed for 107 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries. Kemp was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 64 yards. Avyon Graham made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Meanwhile, North Haven had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They put the hurt on Fairfield Prep with a sharp 28-6 victory.
Their wins bumped West Haven to 5-0 and North Haven to 4-1.
West Haven didn't have too much breathing room in their match against North Haven when the teams last played back in October of 2019, but they still walked away with a 27-23 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was North Haven's Jaden Watson, who rushed for 162 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.0 yards per carry. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for West Haven to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
