The Bourne Canalmen will venture away from home to take on the Somerville Highlanders at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Bourne is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Massachusetts' top teams: Duxbury, who was ranked third at the time (Bourne was ranked 12th). The Canalmen lost 3-0 to the Dragons on Thursday. The Canalmen's defeat signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.
Bourne was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Duxbury work for it, especially in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 28-26, 25-20.

Despite the loss, Bourne had strong showings from Avery Morrill, who had 17 digs, and Michaela Muldoon, who had six digs, two aces, and one block. Muldoon has been hot, having posted two or more aces the last seven times she's played.
Meanwhile, Somerville didn't have quite enough to beat Revere on Wednesday and fell 3-2. While the Highlanders didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Patriots 25-17 in the first set.
Somerville wouldn't go down easily and took Revere into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking five-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 17-25, 25-23, 25-11, 20-25, 15-10.
Bourne's defeat dropped their record down to 12-2. As for Somerville, the loss was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 14-3.
