After losing to the Independence Bulldogs the last time they met, the Labette County Grizzlies decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Labette County came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bulldogs on Friday and snuck past 55-52.
Hudson Baker was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a triple-double on 25 points, 13 rebounds, and nine blocks. That makes it five consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Labette County's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zavier Phillips, who scored 12 points along with six assists and three blocks.
Labette County's win bumped their record up to 2-12. As for Independence, they dropped their record down to 3-11 with that defeat, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Labette County's homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Vikings at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th. Independence will take on the Dragons at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Pittsburg's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight matchups.
