The St. Stephens Indians's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 84-71 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hickory. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Tuesday (67), St. Stephens still had to take the loss.
Several Indians players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Noah VanBeurden, who scored 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Javian White, who scored 19 points along with five assists and two steals.
Hickory's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jamien Little, who scored 18 points. Little continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was John Holbrook, who scored 17 points.
St. Stephens' defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-8. As for Hickory, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 14-0.
St. Stephens and Statesville will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Statesville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Wednesday. Hickory on the road again on Friday and play against Foard at 8:00 p.m. on January 19th.
