After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pieper, The Veterans Memorial Patriots were happy to have found some success on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Tivy and snuck past 21-19. This was payback for Veterans Memorial, who suffered a 35-31 loss the last time these two teams met.
James Peoples was on fire: he rushed for 290 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. Peoples was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 67 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Clinton Dixon, who rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown.
Several Antlers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Aidan Varwig, who rushed for 64 yards and two touchdowns.
Veterans Memorial's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.5 points per game. As for Tivy, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-3 record this season.
Veterans Memorial will be playing at home against Cedar Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cedar Creek comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Tivy, they will head out on the road to face off against Lockhart at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
