The Mayfield Cubs will venture away from home to square off against the Rio Hondo Prep Kares at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The last three games Mayfield has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Wednesday, Mayfield sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over Chadwick. That's two games straight that the Cubs have won by exactly two runs.

Mackenzie Taylor made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Jaz Johnson was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while going 2-for-5. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Kennedy Taylor was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Rio Hondo Prep had just enough and edged out Chadwick 8-7 on Tuesday. The Kares haven't had any issues with the Dolphins recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Like Mayfield, Rio Hondo Prep also got a great game from a two-way player: ALLIE SCOTT. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. SCOTT was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
SCOTT wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was MADISON BURL, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Rio Hondo Prep pushed their record up to 8-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Mayfield, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5-2 record this season.
Mayfield came out on top in a nail-biter against Rio Hondo Prep in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 6-4. Do the Cubs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Kares turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
