Union City is 2-8 against Centerville since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Union City Indians will head out on the road to take on the Centerville Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Union City's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three games.
Union City put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Saturday. They blew past Mississinawa Valley 66-44. Given Union City's advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 328th in Indiana, while Mississinawa Valley is ranked 812th in Ohio), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Union City can attribute much of their success to Conner Walser, who scored 19 points along with six steals, and Jayson Connor, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds. It was the first time this season that Connor scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Angel Nieto, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Centerville pushed their score all the way to 55 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Blue River Valley by a score of 58-55. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Centerville has suffered since November 24, 2023.
The win got Union City back to even at 9-9. As for Centerville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-10.
Union City suffered a grim 70-47 defeat to Centerville when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Can Union City avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
