Southwestern recap October 22, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Kyle Plantier and Zach Simon connected against Chaparral. The connection went for 70 yards, the longest such play in Southwestern this season.
Vista Murrieta took down Great Oak 43-3 last week, the largest margin of any game. Coltin Gerhart threw for 86 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 110 yards during the win.
Peyton Uhl threw for 196 yards and 4 touchdowns. He went 19-33 with 3 interceptions.
Plantier was a passing and rushing force as Temecula Valley fell to the Pumas. He completed 19 passes for 255 yards and also ran for 31 yards. Plantier's key target this week was Simon, who caught 3 passes for 96 yards.
Gerhart was the best running back in the league this week. In 8 carries, he ran for 110 yards as the Broncos topped the Golden Bears. Teammate Tito Feliciano added to the ground attack by rushing for 80 yards.
The Wolfpack's Laquan Williams and Brandon Presley led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-10 quarterback Williams has thrown for 1,405 yards this season, while Presley has 33 catches for 698 yards. Murrieta Valley's Michael Robles leads the league in rushing yards with 909.
The top two teams in Southwestern will face off this week when first place Vista Murrieta takes on second place Murrieta Valley. Vista Murrieta defeated Great Oak last week, while the Nighthawks bested Murrieta Mesa.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Robbie Robinson's team's Presley goes up against Ryan Tukua's team's Darrien Molton.
Murrieta Valley's Robles needs only 91 yards against Coley Candaele's team next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 128 carries Robles has put up 909 yards this year.
Next week's game between the Wolfpack and the Pumas will feature a good passing match up as Williams will test his arm against Molton's defensive ability.
The Broncos led the league in scoring this week by notching 43 points on Great Oak. Gerhart in the win.
