Baseball Recap: Make It Eight in a Row for Tanque Verde

Tanque Verde waltzed into their contest on Thursday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They blew past the Safford Bulldogs 12-4. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won 12 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Landon Walker and Santino Celani made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Walker tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Meanwhile, Celani didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Walker has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Walker fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3, while Celani went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. That's the most hits Celani has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rocco Haggard, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and one double while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Braden Guest, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and two RBI.

Tanque Verde kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive matchups.

Tanque Verde's record now sits at 16-4-2. As for Safford, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.

Tanque Verde will be playing in front of their home fans against Chandler Prep at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Hawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Titans have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season. As for Safford, they will head out to face off against Pusch Ridge Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
