Softball Recap: Central Cambria Wins Going Away Against Somerset

Central Cambria never let their opponents score on Thursday. They blew past the Somerset Eagles 10-0. The Red Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by nine runs or more this season.

Keira Link made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Central Cambria got a massive performance out of Hayden Turner, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave Turner a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Camryn Matlin, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Central Cambria lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in four consecutive matchups.

Central Cambria has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Somerset, they dropped their record down to 4-9 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Central Cambria will face off against Penns Valley Area at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Rams' pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so the Red Devils' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Somerset, they will challenge Bellefonte at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
