Morris is on a nine-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Sycamore is on a eight-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Morris Redskins will take on the Sycamore Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Morris blew past Ottawa, posting a 54-17 win on the road. Given Morris' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 15th, while Ottawa is ranked 250th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Morris' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jacob Swartz led the charge by rushing for 157 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries. Swartz was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 61 yards. Another player making a difference was Carter Button, who threw for 134 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
Meanwhile, Sycamore got themselves on the board against LaSalle-Peru on Friday, but LaSalle-Peru never followed suit. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Cavaliers 49-0 at home.
The wins kept both teams' perfect 8-0 season records intact.
Morris was dealt a bruising 28-0 defeat at the hands of Sycamore in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Will Morris have more luck at home instead of on the road?
