Basketball Recap: Fairfax Piles Up the Points Against Copper Canyon

Fairfax's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 62-13 victory over the Copper Canyon Aztecs. The Stampede have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matches by 31 points or more this season.

Fairfax's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ajana Kenyatta, who dropped a triple-double with 19 points, 11 rebounds, and ten steals. Fairfax is 8-1 when Kenyatta posts five or more steals, but 4-8 otherwise. Mel Romero was another key player, putting up 17 points along with six boards and six steals.

Fairfax smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 33 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Copper Canyon lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Consolet Komya, who posted four points and three steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Julissa Rocha, who scored two points and three steals.

Fairfax is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.8 points over those games. As for Copper Canyon, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-14.

Fairfax has already played their next contest, a 74-23 victory against Central on the 11th. As for Copper Canyon, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 30-23 win against La Joya Community on the 7th.
