On Monday, the St. Frances Academy Panthers faced the St. Mary's Saints in a battle between two of the state's top teams. St. Frances Academy walked away with a 67-59 win over St. Mary's. The win was familiar territory for St. Frances Academy who now have five in a row.
St. Frances Academy found their leader in underclassman Zoe Osby, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Dahni Suggs, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.
St. Mary's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Alexandra Vandiver, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Vandiver has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Bailey Harris, who scored 21 points along with five assists and two steals.
Even though they lost, St. Mary's were working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Frances Academy only racked up seven assists.
St. Frances Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. As for St. Mary's, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-8.
St. Frances Academy will stay at home for another game and welcome Archbishop Spalding at 6:00 p.m. on February 7th. St. Frances Academy is facing Archbishop Spalding at the right time seeing as Archbishop Spalding is stuck on a six-game losing streak. St. Mary's does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
