The Lakeland Chiefs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Riverside Vikings at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Lakeland focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Thursday.
Lakeland's recent rough patch got a bit rougher after their third straight loss. They took a 60-45 bruising from Mid Valley. While losing is never fun, Lakeland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 438th, while Mid Valley is ranked 185th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Billy Hazelton, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Talin Vitzakovitch, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Riverside can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent match on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Blue Ridge 73-42 at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Riverside has posted since December 1, 2023.
Lakeland's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Riverside, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2.
Lakeland came out on top in a nail-biter against Riverside when the teams last played back in February of 2023, sneaking past 39-37. Will Lakeland repeat their success, or does Riverside have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
