Tomball Kings let Logan Guinn and Asher Chapa run wild. Guinn scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Chapa scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Chapa has become a key player for Tomball Kings: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-12-1 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Taven Oluwa, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
Meanwhile, Heights won against Cesar E. Chavez on Tuesday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. Heights' pitchers stepped up to hand Cesar E. Chavez an 11-0 shutout. Considering the Bulldogs have won seven games by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Matthew Garcia made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in February. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Luke Crouse was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Julian Rincon, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Heights always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .515 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Heights' win was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Tomball Kings, they now have a winning record of 13-12-1.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Tomball Kings has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .478. However, it's not like Heights struggles in that department as they've averaged .459. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Tomball Kings suffered a grim 12-1 defeat to Heights when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can Tomball Kings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
