Mountain Vista scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Chaparral, 38-34. At the time, the Wolverines was ranked first in the state, while the Golden Eagles was 71st.
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Mountain Vista, who took down first ranked Chaparral, 38-34. Ryan Rubley threw for 274 yards and three touchdowns and ran for six yards in the win.
John Vogt's team's dynamic duo of Max Kuhns and Mitchell Parsons proved tough for Ric Cash's team to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Kuhns threw for 358 yards and four touchdowns and Parsons had 147 yards receiving. Brandon Malone helped Chaparral's passing attack out by catching four balls for 86 yards.
Jalen Kittrell was the most productive running back in 5A Continental this week. He ran for 135 yards on 12 carries as Highlands Ranch fell to the Golden Eagles. Teammate Ryan Choe added to the ground attack by rushing for 36 yards.
Colton Hogy made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Falcons fell to ThunderRidge. The 5-foot-9 defensive back grabbed one interception.
Chaparral's Kuhns and Parsons have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Kuhns has thrown for 1439 yards this season, while Parsons, a 6-foot-5 receiver, has 29 catches for 520 yards. Douglas County's Trey Smith leads the league in rushing yards with 852.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between the Wolverines and Regis Jesuit. Chaparral comes into the matchup ranked third in the state, while the Raiders ranks 23rd.
The Grizzlies extended the longest winning streak in 5A Continental this week by beating Highlands Ranch, 59-27. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
