3A/2A South Mountain recap Nov. 7, 2012
Burns extended the longest winning streak in 3A/2A South Mountain this week by beating Forestview, 28-6. The victory was the eighth in a row for the team.
Burns moved up to 60 from 87 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Matt Beam's team was able to make move up by beating the Jaguars 28-6.
Freedom's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Shawn Fairchild threw for 131 and three touchdowns and Khris Gardin had 83 yards receiving. On the ground David Burgess chipped in 253 yards. Marcus Wakefield helped Freedom's passing attack out by catching two balls for 24 yards.
6-foot-4 quarterback Spencer Clark of Shelby is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1773. He has also thrown 11 touchdowns. On the ground, the Patriots' Burgess has rushed for 2386 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Gardin. The Freedom star has 55 catches for 1033 yards.
Freedom took down Franklin 42-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Burgess in the win.
