On Wednesday, the Ballou Knights faced the Dunbar Crimson Tide in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Ballou fell 56-44 to Dunbar. It was the first time this season that Ballou let down their fans at home.
Ballou's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josiah GoMillion, who scored ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Samaud Benton-McDonald, who scored 11 points.
Ballou struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Dunbar racked up 17 assists.
Gregory Lomax was his usual excellent self, scoring 19 points along with eight steals for Dunbar. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lomax has scored all season. D'Mitric Starke was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six assists and two steals.
Ballou's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-8. As for Dunbar, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-6 record this season.
Ballou will look to defend their home court on Monday against Phelps Architecture, Construction & Engineering at 6:00 p.m. Phelps Architecture, Construction & Engineering is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Dunbar, they will head out on the road to take on School Without Walls at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. School Without Walls has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
