Centennial hasn't had much luck against Mountain View recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Patriots will take on the Mavericks at 5:00 p.m. Centennial has given up an average of 10.3 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Centennial is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Idaho's top teams: Timberline, who was ranked second at the time (Centennial was ranked 25th). The Patriots lost 18-8 to the Wolves on Thursday.
Cali Moorhouse made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Josie Moorhouse, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Mountain View made sure to put some runs up on the board against Boise on Thursday. The Mavericks came out on top against the Brave by a score of 10-5. The Mavericks haven't had any issues with the Brave recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Katy Jackson tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Aleynah Vega and Kiki Bangham did most of the damage at the plate: Vega went 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Bangham went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Van Winkle, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Centennial's loss dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Mountain View, their record now sits at 8-5.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Centennial hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .344. However, it's not like Mountain View struggles in that department as they've averaged .314. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Centennial couldn't quite get it done against Mountain View when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 9-6. Can the Patriots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
