The Rootstown Rovers will head out to square off against the Maplewood Rockets at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Rootstown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Monday just wasn't the day for Rootstown's offense. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Berkshire on Monday. The Rovers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Rootstown got a good showing from Makensea Bittner, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Bittner has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Rootstown saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Morgan Giebel, who went 2-for-3 with one double. That double was Giebel's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Maplewood came tearing into Monday's game with 15 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 23-0 margin over the Red Devils. The Rockets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by six runs or more this season.
Lexi Yannucci and Claire Urchek were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Yannucci struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Urchek pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Yannucci went 1-for-3 with three runs and one RBI, while Urchek went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three doubles, and two runs. Those three runs gave Yannucci a new career-high.
In other batting news, Maplewood got a massive performance out of Aleesia Woomer, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. That's the most hits Woomer has posted since back in May of 2025. Samantha Krieg was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
Maplewood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .718. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Rootstown's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 9-6. As for Maplewood, their record now sits at 16-1.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Rootstown hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .316. However, it's not like Maplewood struggles in that department as they've averaged .365. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Rootstown skirted past Maplewood 9-8 when the teams last played back in April of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rovers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
