Baseball Recap: Chino Valley Drops Highest Score of Season Against Winslow

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chino Valley). They put the hurt on the Winslow Bulldogs with a sharp 16-2 victory on Wednesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Freddie Garcia made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He has become a key player for Chino Valley: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-6-1 otherwise.

In other batting news, Jacob Boivin was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Ryan Lamotte was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.

Chino Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Chino Valley's victory bumped their record up to 6-7-1. As for Winslow, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-13-1.

Coming up, Chino Valley will welcome Blue Ridge at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The Yellow Jackets' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Winslow, they will head out on the road to face off against Bourgade Catholic at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs are facing the Golden Eagles at the right time seeing as the Golden Eagles are stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
