Football Recap: Mart Skates Past Cumby with Ease

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Mart had no problem doing just that on Friday. They blew past the Cumby Trojans, posting a 40-6 win. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won six contests by 27 points or more so far this season.

Mart got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Carmelo Medlock out in front who rushed for 137 yards and one TD while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. Medlock is becoming a predictor of the Panthers' success: when he posts at least 100 rushing yards the team is undefeated (and 3-5 when he doesn't). Another rusher making a difference was Ah'Maad Scott, who rushed for 90 yards and one score on only ten carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Mart was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 402 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 161 rushing yards in six consecutive matchups.

Mart's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. In that department, Gavin Flanagan was the leader with two sacks.

Mart has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 10.2 points on average over those games. As for Cumby, they moved to 6-5 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Coming up, Mart will square off against Lovelady on Friday. The Panthers will need to watch out since the Lions have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. Cumby does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
