Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in prep girls basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2023-24 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Summer Davis of
West Bloomfield is the 2023-24 Michigan MaxPreps Player of the Year. The 5-foot-10 senior guard led the Lakers to a 27-1 record and Division 1 state championship.
For the season, Davis averaged 18.2 points, 4.3 steals, 4.1 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game. In a 60-30 win over Grand Blanc in the title game, she scored a game-high 14 points and posted a season-high 32 against Rochester (Rochester Hills) in February.
Davis along with twin sister Indya have led West Bloomfield to a 78-5 record over the past three seasons with a state title in 2022 in addition to this season.
Both regarded as top 100 players in the Class of 2024, the Davis twins signed with Georgia in November.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which is scheduled to be released April 11. Past selections include 2023 WNBA Most Valuable Player Breanna Stewart (2012) as well as 2023 All-WNBA first team picks Napheesa Collier (2015), Alyssa Thomas (2010) and A'ja Wilson (2014).
