There's no place like home for the Gibsonburg Golden Bears, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Saturday. They strolled past St. Joseph Central Catholic with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 56-37. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Gibsonburg also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2023.
Gibsonburg found their leader in underclassman Reece Walby, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Walby has scored at least 25% of Gibsonburg's points. Another player making a difference was Jake Hall, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds.
Loss or not, St. Joseph Central Catholic got some senior leadership from Clay Stull who scored 17 points along with four steals and Cooper Talikka who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The match was Talikka's fifth in a row with at least ten points.
St. Joseph Central Catholic struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Gibsonburg's victory bumped their record up to 2-4. As for St. Joseph Central Catholic, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
Gibsonburg will head out on the road to face off against St. Mary Central Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Joseph Central Catholic will be home for the holidays to greet Hopewell-Loudon at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopewell-Loudon has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 179 points over their last three games.
