Greenwood and Plainfield are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Woodmen will head out on the road to square off against the Quakers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Greenwood has now lost nine straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 28.

Greenwood fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Franklin Central on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Flashes by a score of 6-5.

Greenwood saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mavrick Pauley, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Another was Joey Ortman, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Plainfield fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Mooresville on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 10-5 to the Pioneers. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Quakers, who until this game were averaging 3.52 runs allowed.

Luke Warriner was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Gavin Lykins made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Plainfield: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 9-10 otherwise. Ty White was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run.

Greenwood's record now sits at 4-16. As for Plainfield, their record is now 12-11.

Greenwood skirted past Plainfield 5-4 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Woodmen since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
