Basketball Game Preview: Aurora Huskies vs. York Dukes

Aurora is 1-9 against York since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Aurora Huskies will venture away from home to challenge the York Dukes at 6:00 p.m.

Last Saturday, Aurora came up short against Beatrice and fell 39-31.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Kenna Merrihew, who posted eight points in addition to seven boards and four steals. Merrihew is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Maddie Ramaekers, who posted six points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for York, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They really took it to Lexington for the full four quarters, racking up a 52-14 win. The game marked the Dukes' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Aurora better keep an eye on Chloe Koch. She was instrumental in York's win, going 6 of 9 on her way to 15 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kinslee Kern, who had nine points.

York's record now sits at 3-1. As for Aurora, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Aurora has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30 boards per game. However, it's not like York struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.8 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Aurora came up short against York in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 49-39. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Koch, who put up 15 points along with six rebounds and six steals.
