Two dominant guards in Luke Shaw and Tory Gholston are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Valley Christian Trojans will head out on the road to square off against the Coolidge Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Valley Christian is looking to tack on another W to their 18-game streak on the road dating back to last season.
In what's become a running theme this season, Valley Christian gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. They put the hurt on Gilbert Christian with a sharp 86-64 victory. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Valley Christian just coasted through the last quarter.
Meanwhile, Coolidge came tearing into Friday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28 points) and they left with even more momentum. They secured a 67-61 W over American Leadership Academy - Ironwood. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Coolidge's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ja'kwan Jordan, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 21 rebounds. Jordan has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Gholston, who scored 26 points.
Valley Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 23-2 record this season. As for Coolidge, their win bumped their record up to 20-5.
Valley Christian came up short against the Bears when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 68-62. Can Valley Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
