Calais is 10-0 against Sumner since December of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Calais Blue Devils will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Sumner Tigers at 6:30 p.m. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Calais' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell 30-17 to Woodland. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Calais has scored all season.
The losing side was boosted by Kate McPhee, who scored ten points. She scored a full 58.8% of Calais' points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Sumner was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 50-44 to Bucksport.
Calais' loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Sumner, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
Everything went Calais' way against Sumner in their previous meeting back in December of 2021 as Calais made off with a 66-46 win. Will Calais repeat their success, or does Sumner have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
