Jakson Slade and Ben Simons made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Slade pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Simons tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Slade scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Simons scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Coal Ridge is undefeated when Simons posts two or more runs, but 1-2-1 otherwise.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Logan Harlow, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. He also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season.
Coal Ridge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Gunnison and Alamosa, and Alamosa kept the tradition alive. The Cowboys fell just short of the Mean Moose by a score of 9-8 on Tuesday. The Cowboys' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Cesar Marmolejo was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylee Berry, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Coal Ridge is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Gunnison, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
Coal Ridge came out on top in a nail-biter against Gunnison in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Titans repeat their success, or do the Cowboys have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
