The Lincoln Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They fell just short of Robert C. Byrd by a score of 45-42. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Lincoln in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now lost three in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Lincoln lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ashlyn Riley. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 52.4% of Lincoln's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Sadie Adams was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Robert C. Byrd to victory, but perhaps none more so than Martina Howe, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Carleigh Curotz, who scored 11 points.
Lincoln dropped their record down to 9-8 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Robert C. Byrd, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lincoln will stay at home for another game and welcome the Knights at 7:30 p.m. on February 1st. Hopefully Preston focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Tuesday. As for Robert C. Byrd, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bearcats at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Grafton's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three games.
