Hays is 0-10 against Liberal since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Hays Indians will be home for the holidays to greet the Liberal Redskins at 6:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kansas (Hays is ranked 109th, while Liberal is ranked 104th).
After soaring to 55 points the game before, Hays were a bit more limited in their game on Tuesday. They suffered a tough 45-22 defeat at the hands of Heights. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Hays has scored all season.
Liberal has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 38 points or more this season. They breezed by Hugoton at home to the tune of 55-17.
Shamari Lewis and Hailey Contreras were among the main playmakers for Liberal as the former scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and three steals and the latter scored 22 points along with seven assists and four steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Contreras has scored at least 25% of Liberal's points. Another player making a difference was Zoey Torres, who scored seven points.
Hays bumped their record down to 3-3 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Liberal, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season.
Things could have been worse for Hays, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 55-38 loss to Liberal in their previous matchup back in February. Can Hays avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
