Bluffton has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the Colleton County Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Bluffton's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matches.
Last Tuesday, Bluffton faced James Island in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Bluffton walked away with a 59-50 win over James Island. The score was all tied up 31-31 at the break, but Bluffton was the better team in the second half.
Tacoya Heyward was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a triple-double on 22 points, nine assists, and nine steals. Heyward is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja'laina Mosley, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Colleton County's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 37-26 hit to the loss column at the hands of May River. While losing is never fun, Colleton County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 206th, while May River is ranked 93rd).
Bluffton pushed their record up to 15-1 with that victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Colleton County, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-12.
Bluffton skirted past Colleton County 49-47 in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Will Bluffton repeat their success, or does Colleton County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
