The Weber Warriors will take on the Davis Darts at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Weber has given up an average of 13.5 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Tuesday, Weber came up short against Fremont and fell 11-8. The loss continues a trend for the Warriors in their meetings with the Silverwolves: they've now lost five in a row.
Morgan Dixon led a balanced group of hitters, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was Gabby Montgomery, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Davis waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They never let the Lancers get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory. Considering the Darts have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Serena Roth made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Roth was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jewel Korth, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Hadlee Isaacs was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Davis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Layton only posted an OBP of .211.
Davis pushed their record up to 9-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Weber, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-8.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Weber has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .449. However, it's not like Davis struggles in that department as they've averaged .452. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Weber couldn't quite finish off Davis in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 8-6. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
