The Athenian Owls will head out on the road to take on the College Prep Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Athenian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 13 games -- so hopefully the Cougars like a good challenge.
Last Tuesday, Athenian strolled past the Phoenix with points to spare, taking the game 64-45. Given Athenian's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 305th, while the Phoenix are ranked 1049th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Athenian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Evan Lucas, who scored 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Olivier, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, College Prep unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a rough 89-50 loss at the hands of Head-Royce. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for College Prep in their matchups with the Jayhawks: they've now lost five in a row.
Athenian has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. As for College Prep, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-7.
Athenian beat the Cougars 60-53 in their previous matchup two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for Athenian since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
