The Powdersville Patriots waltzed into their contest on Friday with seven straight wins but they left with eight. They claimed a resounding 71-42 victory over Southside at home. Powdersville has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 20 points or more this season.
Hayden Assemian was his usual excellent self, scoring 24 points along with nine rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Nick Sweet, who scored 12 points.
Southside's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Shakem Griffin, who scored ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Angerrelle Gomes-Ramsey, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Southside struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Powdersville racked up 14 assists.
Powdersville is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. As for Southside, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.
Powdersville will square off against Riverside at 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Riverside is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road. As for Southside, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Belton-Honea Path at 7:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Carolina (Belton-Honea Path is ranked 147th, while Southside is ranked 160th).
