Catholic Central has gone a perfect 4-0 against Bridgeport recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Crusaders will head out to take on the Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Catholic Central has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while Bridgeport will arrive with three straight wins.
Bishop Rosecrans hit Catholic Central with a four-run sixth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Crusaders came up short against the Bishops, falling 12-5.
Mason Meeks made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 4-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Caleb Wright also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bridgeport). They put the hurt on Paden City with a sharp 24-0 victory on Wednesday. With that win, the Bulldogs brought their scoring average up to 7.4 runs per game.
JAKI THREET made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs.
In other batting news, Connor Nelson was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. GAGE DRUMMOND was another key player, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Bridgeport always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Bridgeport now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Catholic Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Catholic Central has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Bridgeport struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Catholic Central took their victory against Bridgeport in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. Do the Crusaders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
