They were the victim of a tough 63-42 defeat at the hands of Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy. While losing is never fun, Deerfield Beach can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 416th, while Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy is ranked 54th).
Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy found their leader in underclassman Martay Barnes, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Barnes has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Derrick Flowers, who scored eight points along with four steals.
Deerfield Beach bumped their record down to 4-11 with that loss, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Deerfield Beach will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on South Plantation at 7:30 p.m. on January 10th. Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy and Rockledge will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 4th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
