The Clay-Chalkville Cougars will face off against the Leeds Greenwave at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Clay-Chalkville was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Minor on Tuesday. Everything went Clay-Chalkville's way against Minor as Clay-Chalkville made off with a 12-2 victory. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Cougars' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Semaj Snow made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Snow was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, D'Marques Kendrick was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Nic Youngblood, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Clay-Chalkville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. The last time their batting average was this high was back in February of 2024.
Meanwhile, Leeds had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They blew past McAdory 11-1.
Like Clay-Chalkville, Leeds also got a great game from a two-way player: Conner Nelson. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the fewest earned runs Nelson has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run and six RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grayson Ford, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Nash Jones, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
Clay-Chalkville's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Leeds, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Clay-Chalkville came up short against Leeds in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, falling 10-7. Can Clay-Chalkville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
