Orcutt Academy is 1-9 against Templeton since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Spartans will host the Eagles at 4:30 p.m.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Orcutt Academy's offense. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pioneer Valley on Tuesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Meanwhile, Templeton came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Greyhounds 16-1. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won eight contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Bailey Fiorenza made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Tegan Jay looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Aislyn Vogt was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Marquart, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Templeton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive games.
Templeton's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-6. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Orcutt Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-10-1.
Orcutt Academy might still be hurting after the 9-0 loss they got from Templeton in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
