There's no place like home for The Lyford Bulldogs, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. They walked away with a 34-24 victory over Santa Gertrudis Academy on Friday. That's another feather in the cap for Lyford, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Among those leading the charge was Isaias Gonzalez, who picked up 159 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Aiden Olivas was another key contributor, throwing for 251 yards and three touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes.
Although Santa Gertrudis Academy took the loss, they still got scores from Daniel Mendietta, Dj Castillo, and Kace Owen.
Lyford's win was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 33.2 points per game. As for Santa Gertrudis Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lyford will take on Progreso at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Progreso comes in on a streak of failing to score more than eight points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Santa Gertrudis Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Falfurrias at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Texas (Falfurrias is ranked 975th, while Santa Gertrudis Academy is ranked 1000th).
