Plainfield South and Plainfield East are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Cougars will host the Bengals at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
Plainfield South is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Providence Catholic just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Celtics by a score of 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Cougars have suffered since March 18th.
Meanwhile, Plainfield East entered their tilt with Plainfield Central on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with an 8-4 win over the Wildcats. While the Bengals didn't have the best season last year (they finished 13-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Jocelyn Cushard made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Cushard was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other pitching news, Maya Patel looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Meranda Abante and Jahaira Malacara did most of the damage at the plate: Abante went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Malacara went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI Malacara has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Aneesa Loring, who went 3-for-4 with two runs.
Plainfield East kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Plainfield East's victory bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Plainfield South, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-6.
Plainfield South couldn't quite finish off Plainfield East when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
