This season hasn't been kind to The Fairbury Jeffs, who are still winless after their ninth matchup. They were dealt a 41-6 loss at the hands of Adams Central on Friday. Fairbury was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-0.
Jacob Nippert threw for 92 yards and a touchdown while completing 75% of his passes. Riley Arner was his top target, picking up 75 receiving yards and no touchdowns. On the ground, Dalton Vanlaningham rushed for 43 yards.
Jackson Sughroue was the offensive standout of the match as he rushed for 35 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 144 yards and a touchdown while completing 84.6% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Conant, who rushed for 35 yards and two touchdowns.
Fairbury's defeat was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-9. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-0 Fillmore Central and 5-3 Aurora (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 57.7% over those games). As for Adams Central, their win bumped their record up to 8-1.
Fairbury does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Adams Central will look to defend their home field on Friday against Aurora at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nebraska (Aurora is ranked 25th, while Adams Central is ranked 24th).
