The Cooperstown Redskins will face off against the Hamilton Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Cooperstown has given up an average of 11 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Cooperstown managed to slip by Cincinnatus Central the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Redskins came up short against the Lions on Saturday, falling 14-3. The Redskins have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Hamilton got the win against Canastota on Monday by a conclusive 9-2. Considering the Knights have won five matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Ellie Freeth was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Polly Hansen-Rodriguez, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Kristen LaFrance was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Hamilton's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average this season. As for Cooperstown, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.
Everything went Cooperstown's way against Hamilton when the teams last played back in April of 2025, as Cooperstown made off with a 10-2 victory. Will the Redskins repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
