Union is 2-8 against the Titans since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Union Rockets will be staying on the road to face off against the Tri Titans at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Union will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 346th, while the Titans are ranked 107th).
Last Friday, Union was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 41-36 to the Broncos. Union has struggled against the Broncos recently, as their match on Friday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Glory Ellis, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last five times she's played. Zoe Ogden was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Tri walked away with it. They strolled past the Rebels with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 43-26. The victory was just what Tri needed coming off of a 65-38 defeat in their prior matchup.
Tri's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kenley Cornelius, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jillian Chew, who scored 13 points along with two blocks.
Union's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Tri, their victory bumped their record up to 21-3.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Union have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Tri struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Union was taken down by the Titans 65-23 in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Can Union avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
