Despite their loss, Smithfield-Selma saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Karmen Cyrus, who had 32 assists, was perhaps the best of all. Kaylie Gilyardi was another key player, getting 17 kills.
Meanwhile, Fuquay - Varina lost 3-0 to Cleveland on Thursday.
While Fuquay - Varina was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 25-18, 25-15.
Smithfield-Selma has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for Fuquay - Varina, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.
