Deer Valley got a great performance from Carter Reitz as he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Reitz has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Cam Waddell was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Tyler Carr also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Deer Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Cactus can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They blew past Cortez 12-2. That looming 12-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Cobras yet this season.
The team relied heavily on Phoenix Huisinga, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. He has become a key player for Cactus: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-12 otherwise. Eli Torres was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Deer Valley's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-8-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Cactus, their record now sits at 5-13.
Cactus' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Deer Valley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .453. It's a different story for Cactus, though, as they've only averaged .326. Will they be able to contain Deer Valley's hitters?
Deer Valley took their victory against Cactus in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Skyhawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
