Softball Recap: Volunteer's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Volunteer barely beat Grainger the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Falcons never let the Grizzlies get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory on Thursday. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by nine runs or more this season.

Volunteer let Sydney New and Emily Walker run wild. New went 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI, while Walker went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Ford, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs.

Volunteer always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Grainger only posted an OBP of .167.

The win was the fifth in a row for Volunteer, bringing their record up to 12-2. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Grainger, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-5.

Looking ahead, Volunteer will challenge Elizabethton at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Grainger will be paying especially close attention to the Falcons' contest: after the Falcons face off against the Fighting Cyclones, they'll take on Grainger again at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
