Basketball Recap: South Central Falls Despite Big Games from Makenna Welsh and Samantha Marks

After flying high against Boone Grove last Monday, South Central came back down to earth. The match between the South Central Satellites and the Westville Blackhawks didn't end well, with the South Central Satellites falling 61-45. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Satellites this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 53-28 last Saturday.

South Central's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Samantha Marks, who posted 14 points and four steals, and Makenna Welsh, who went 7 for 12 on her way to 15 points and eight rebounds. Marks is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Westville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Andrea Benefield, who went 9 of 16 en route to 19 points in addition to eight boards and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Fenters, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten steals.

South Central's defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Westville, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-2.

South Central has already played their next contest (against Jimtown), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Westville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 59-37 win against Morgan Township on the 25th.
