Basketball Recap: Brookhaven Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Kema Roberts and Zaniya Nunnery

It was a proper cat-fight when Brookhaven duked it out withNorth Pike on Friday. The Brookhaven Panthers took a 42-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the North Pike Jaguars. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 129th, while the Jaguars are ranked 50th).

Zaniya Nunnery and Kema Roberts certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Nunnery posted 17 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals, while Roberts put up eight points and 11 boards. The dominant performance gave Nunnery a new career-high in rebounds.

De'Asia Hudson was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 16 points and nine boards for North Pike. Another player making a difference was Zy' Keiya Herring, who scored nine points.

Brookhaven now has a losing record at 11-12. As for North Pike, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brookhaven will square off against Natchez at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for North Pike, they will challenge Florence at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Pike is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.3 points per game this season.
