Fort Osage ascended to the top of the Class 5 football rankings following former No. 1 Raymore-Peculiar’s 42-6 loss to Class 6 Liberty during second-week action of the Missouri high school football season.

Fort Osage built a 20-0 cushion at intermission after the aerial duo connected on 54-yard and 53-yard scoring strikes before setting up Pearl’s 1-yard plunge just before halftime with a 40-yard completion. In all, Tillmon caught five balls for 148 yards and two scores in the opening half of play.
"We worked together all offseason working out and running routes, and it’s starting to pay off this year," Pearl said of the passing duo that has hooked up for six scoring strikes already in 2009. "He’s a great athlete. If you get him the ball he’s going to make the play."
"Me and him have been playing together for a real long time, and we hang out all the time," Tillmon added. "I think it’s the chemistry. We’ve got great chemistry."
Lee’s Summit West’s Jordan Wade gave the Titans some momentary momentum with an 11-yard scoring run in the third quarter to cut the deficit to two touchdowns.
But Indian cornerback Ian Mathis turned the tide back in the favor of the victors when he picked off a pass and returned it 61 yards for a 28-7 advantage. Fort Osage stretched the lead to 35-7 on a 1-yard run by Jaleel Gordon to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Lee’s Summit West’s James Rich rounded out the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 56-yard romp as the Titans dropped to 1-2 on the young season and drop out of the Class 5 rankings for the time being.
